They belong to the family of mammals and have distinctive hard spines, which are mainly used to defend against predators. Hedgehogs are different from small mammals in that they require special conditions and medical care.<\/p>\n\n<p>Hedgehogs are named for their unique foraging patterns. Hedgehogs look through hedgerows for small creatures that mostly feed on insects, worms, centipedes, snails, mice, frogs and snakes.<br\/><br\/>Some people believe that hedgehogs are useful pets because they prey on common pests in many gardens. During hunting, they rely on their sense of hearing and smell and are relatively weak in their eyesight.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Basic characteristics of a hedgehog<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>\u2714 <strong>Lifespan<\/strong>: 3-7 years (more than 8 years with proper breeding)<br\/>\u2714 <strong>Weight<\/strong>: 250-700 grams (varies by breed and health)<br\/>\u2714 <strong>Feeding habits<\/strong>: omnivorous (mainly insects, fruits, and special feed)<br\/>\u2714 <strong>Activity habits<\/strong>: nocturnal, resting most of the time during the day<br\/>\u2714 <strong>Temperature requirements<\/strong>: 22-28\u00b0C, avoid below 18\u00b0C to prevent hibernation (hibernation is extremely dangerous for hedgehogs and can lead to death)<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Hedgehog Breeding Tips<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>\ud83d\udd39 <strong>Ambient temperature control<\/strong> \u2013 Maintain a moderate temperature of 22-28\u00b0C to avoid hibernation caused by low temperatures<br\/>\ud83d\udd39 <strong>Plenty of space to move \u2013<\/strong> provide running wheels and areas to explore to avoid obesity<br\/>\ud83d\udd39 <strong>Proper diet<\/strong> \u2013 feed hedgehogs with a suitable amount of insect protein (e.g. breadworms)<br\/>\ud83d\udd39 <strong>Regular health check-ups<\/strong> \u2013 It is advisable to have annual health check-ups to ensure that the hedgehog is healthy<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Protect the health of hedgehogs, we walk with you!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>At City Veterinarian, we are not just veterinarians, but also your companion for the health of your pets.
